Collecting dice fudging surveys

I dug around to see if there were more polls on fudging dice on the internet and roughly, looks like 1 in 5 think its not ok, a share that has been stable for the past decade.

This was set off by a significant level of salt kicked up on twitter by someone declaring they fudged things as a DM. There has been a great deal of internet ink spilled on this topic and I do not propose to add to it beyond saying it looks like attitudes are relatively stable.

What I did find interesting was a few polls that asked questions *around* this question - first do people fudge rolls as a player, second do they want their DM to fudge and lastly, whether fudging dice rolls or not, can a DM actually cheat?

Very interesting to see that player fudging is the inverse of DM fudging - 4 in 5 say they never do it. Also interesting on whether the DM can cheat, response says practically no - so even where people may prefer not to see fudging, it is not cheating. On the last - whether you want your DM to fudge, I found two and ran my own brief poll on this to get the scatter of answers seen here. Taking even this years responses - a majority of Twitter respondents say no (of a small sample size) while clear majority of users on the Facebook 5e D&D group are fine with it. Given that it is the much higher sample size, let us take that as more correct and accept that mostly people are ok with their DM fudging. One can hope that the fifth who don't want their DM to fudge are actually matched with the fifth of DM's who don't fudge.

While most of the polls focused on 'how often' the MegaDM survey asked 'when is it justified' to give a picture of the drivers behind DM fudging.

Setting aside the 'never' and 'whenever' fractions we seem to have most DM's (78%) seeing fudge as a tool to be deployed only when justified by some unusual circumstance.
